Class Description:

Meghan Durham explores the interdependence of weight, breath, and momentum within the body. Her technique class is designed for both the advanced dancer and the dancer who is committed to honest investigation of movement technique. It encourages discovery and efficient use of movement within individual physicality. The class moves progressively through floor, center, traveling, and phrase work to build physical awareness, connectivity, and strength in the body.

Meghan is available for classes, workshops, and residencies for dance technique, improvisation, composition, and repertory. She has held dance faculty positions working with a range of populations at Ohio State University, Princeton University, Temple University, University of Utah, Wesminster College, Susan Hess Modern Dance, cm2 community class series, COSMOS class series, Repertory Dance Theater Community School, the Painted Bride workshop series, and Virginia Tanner Creative Dance.

Biography:
Meghan Durham is a dance artist, choreographer, educator, and advocate. She is the founder and artistic director of Meghan Durham/Merge Dance. From 1999-2003, Meghan was co-founder and creative director of Paradigm Dance Project, an arts organization that provides access to dance for emerging artists and underserved populations. Meghan has choreographed, performed, and taught nationally, and her work has been supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Eccles Foundation, the Philadelphia Foundation, and the Painted Bride Art Center, among others. She was recently named a 2007-2008 Dance Artist for the nEW Festival, supporting the creation and production of original work. Meghan is also a recent participant in Dance Advance’s professional development initiative/ artists’ exchange program attending the 2007 DA:NS Festival in Singapore, administered by the Pew Charitable Trust. Meghan performs with Melanie Stewart Dance Theatre, and has performed previously with Mixed Metaphor Movement, Workshop for Potential Movement, Dance South Repertory, and diverse independent choreographers. She currently teaches as adjunct faculty in the Department of Dance at Ohio State University. Meghan has held dance faculty positions at Princeton University, Temple University, the University of Utah, Westminster College, Repertory Dance Theater's Community School, the Virginia Tanner Creative Dance Program, COSMOS Series, and Susan Hess Modern Dance. Meghan’s creative work embeds interdisciplinary inquiry within dance choreography and performance, however the human body and experience remain at the foreground of her work.
